Hartke Farm - Conserved 2000
The Hartke Farm parcel is 6.8 acres located on the north side of Randolph Road. It is adjacent to the Tinker Farm, which is conserved by Vermont Land Trust and owned by Paul Percy. The Hartke property features prime agricultural soil and expansive views of the Worcester Mountains and Mt. Mansfield.
Edward and George Hartke approached Stowe Land Trust in 2000 with an interest in conserving their property. Although they needed to sell the property, they wanted the farm to remain in agriculture. Stowe Land Trust purchased the property from the Hartkes in December 2000 for a bargain price. Funding was provided by the Vermont Department of Agriculture, the Freeman Foundation and SLT members. The Vermont Land Trust agreed to amend the Tinker Farm easement to include the Hartke property. After the easement was amended Paul Percy purchased the Hartke property for its agricultural value. He continues to farm it as part of the Tinker Farm.
