Moscow Recreation Field

- Moscow Ballfield
On any summer day, the Moscow Recreation Field is teeming with activity. From Little League games to bird watching to swimming, this recreation area is home to a number of important community pastimes. In 1997, the owners of the Moscow Recreation Field announced that they intended to sell the property rather than renewing the Town’s lease. Stowe Land Trust and others immediately recognized the importance of permanently conserving this meadow. Gregory Federspiel, the Town Administrator at the time, said, “The recreation fields serve an important function for numerous teams now. Perhaps more importantly, years down the road when the hamlet of Moscow has developed more fully, the area will be a critical piece of open space, recreation land and public access to the river."
Moscow, the small hamlet south of Stowe is a traditional Vermont mill village characterized by a small, mixed-use village center. The Moscow Recreation Field is a 4.7-acre field in Moscow Village with 2 baseball diamonds, a picnic area, a small pond, and over 600 feet of frontage on the Little River.
Stowe Land Trust purchased the Moscow Recreation Field in August of 1998 with support from the Freeman Foundation, the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and private contributions. After purchasing the Moscow Recreation Field, Stowe Land Trust and the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board placed a conservation easement on the property and conveyed the title to the Town of Stowe. The Moscow Recreation Field is open to the public. It is a great place to play ball, swim, walk the dogs on a leash, and picnic.
