Stancliff Property - Conserved 2001
“There are certain places that just should not be developed,” said Ron Stancliff. To honor this belief and their numerous days hunting and hiking on their property, Ron and Judy Stancliff conserved their 11 acres at the end of Maple Run Lane with Stowe Land Trust.
The Stancliff property is forested and contiguous to the Sterling Town Forest, which is owned by the Town of Stowe and conserved by a conservation easement held by the Vermont Land Trust. Their property has high recreational value and is well known to hikers, snowshoers, cross country skiers, mountain bikers and hunters who pass through on the Class Four road that cuts through the southern tip of the property. Along with the human visitors, bear, deer and moose are frequent visitors to the property.
The Stancliffs granted a conservation easement to Stowe Land Trust in December 2001. The easement protects their land from development and preserves its natural beauty for future generations of all species. Its conservation expands the abutting preserved land and buffers Sterling Town Forest from encroaching development.
