Mill Trail Cabin Gets a New Roof!
Stowe Land Trust recently held a volunteer work day at Mill Trail to replace the cedar shake roof before winter sets in. For eight hours the area surrounding the upper Mill Trail cabin buzzed like a hive as 20 of us worked to strip the 45 year old roof and prepare it for a new layer of cedar shingles.
Several local contractors were approached about creative ways SLT might complete the project at a managable cost. John Steel, owner of Steel Construction, was an invaluable resource in developing and executing the project. He worked with us to define a scope of work that would involve volunteer labor coupled with skilled carpenters, donated the time of three skilled carpenters, developed a list of materials, and secured donated equipment from Gristmill Builders.
Stowe Land Trust owes a debt of thanks to all our volunteers and carpenters John, Paul and Mark, who spent an exhausting day at Mill Trail. Phase II of the roof replacement project will take place later this month. If you are interested in lending a hand, we would love to hear from you!
