Volunteers Needed!

- Gert Lepine and Charlie Berry conduct a stewardship inspection on a conserved parcel.
Stewardship is one of the most enjoyable parts of land conservation. Getting out onto the properties we cherish, with a landowner who is also invested in seeing their property protected can be rewarding and enlightening. Want to become a property steward? Call the SLT office—or just stop in.
As most of our members know, property owners and SLT expend a significant amount of energy in the process of conserving a property. What is often not as apparent is that, after settlement, the ongoing work of maintaining the property for the intended conservation use is just beginning.
- We have a responsibility to the property owner, our members, and the public to protect the conserved resources.
- We endeavor to provide our members and the public with a safe and enjoyable experience on properties that are conserved for recreational activity.
- We must recruit a sufficient number of volunteers to help inspect properties and provide routine maintenance.
- We must plan for and ensure sufficient funds for expenses such as bridge repairs and trail maintenance.
- We must monitor properties and maintain good working relationships with landowners in order to identify and resolve potential problems before they become significant concerns.
