Mill Trail Cabin Restoration

The Mill Trail Cabin is situated on a 31 acre parcel purchased by Stowe Land Trust in 2003 and protected with a conservation easement co-held by SLT and Vermont Land Trust. The Cabin was designed and built by Dr. Marguerite Lichtenthaeler who fashioned it after the first Moravian style log cabin in her home state of Pennsylvania.
Since taking ownership of the property, Stowe Land Trust’s goal has been to keep the cabin’s remarkable story alive. To best preserve the building and its history, Stowe Land Trust is committed to enhancing public use and enjoyment of the cabin and its surroundings for the benefit of visitors and residents of the Stowe area.
With recreation continuing to play a major role in the economy and quality of life in Stowe, restoration of the Moravian Cabin will allow access to the outdoors in much the same way it did in the 1930’s. While no longer the focus of downhill skiing in Stowe, Ranch Valley still offers access to an extensive network or Nordic skiing, hiking and biking trails.
Restoration of the Moravian Cabin will reinvigorate its original purpose to connect people with the outdoors through access to recreation.
Stowe Land Trust is currently raising funds needed to stabilize the building and make it safe for the community to enjoy.
