Bird Monitoring 6/24 - 7/1

Last week (and some of this week) I was out and about exploring Stowe Land Trust owned properties doing my favorite thing: monitoring for birds! I visited Wiessner Woods, DuMont Meadow, Page Forest, Mill Trail, and Kirchner Woods, where I heard and saw a variety of different species in the forest.

My protocol for bird monitoring involves:

  1. Arriving at the property at 9 AM
  2. Walk/hike all trails at the property
  3. Listen and identify birds by sight and sound
  4. Continue for 1 hour, end monitoring at 10 AM

Here is a list of the amazing birds that I heard/saw during my visits:

  • Black-throated Blue Warbler
  • Hermit Thrush
  • Ovenbird
  • Black-capped Chickadee
  • Red-eyed Vireo
  • Gray Catbird
  • Blue Jay
  • Northern Cardinal
  • Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
  • American Crow
  • American Redstart
  • Blue-headed Vireo
  • Red-breasted Nuthatch
  • Pileated Woodpecker
  • Common Yellowthroat
  • Black-and-white Warbler
  • White-throated Sparrow
  • Song Sparrow
  • Chipping Sparrow
  • American Robin
  • Golden-crowned Kinglet
  • Turkey Vulture
  • Wood Thrush
  • Black-throated Green Warbler
  • Eastern Wood-Pewee
  • Warbling Vireo
  • Chestnut-sided Warbler
  • Veery

I will be completing another round of bird monitoring at these properties next week, and I look forward to seeing if there are any different species!
