Vermont Reads: The Most Costly Journey (April 15)

Saturday, April 15, 2023
PM – 5:30 PM

We are excited to partner with the Stowe Free Library and Vermont Reads on three discussions centered on the 2022 Vermont Reads' selection, The Most Costly Journey. This graphic novel tells the stories of 19 Vermont migrant farm workers in their own words. Illustrated by New England cartoonists in a variety of styles, each short chapter describes aspects of life as an immigrant farm worker in Vermont: crossing the southern border, struggling with English, adapting to winter, growing gardens, raising children, dealing with health crises, and working long hours.

On April 15 at 5:30 PM, an interactive speaking event with Vermont’s leading non-profit group fighting for farmworkers rights, Migrant Justice, will discuss the Milk With Dignity campaign. Migrant Justice will be giving an informational talk about the campaign while providing attendees functional tools and call to actions for supporting the rights of Vermont’s migrant farmworker population.
