Today I had a wonderful hike with the Lamoille County Hikes for Tykes group! We went to DuMont Meadow, and walked Alex’s Trail, a mountain bike trail for beginners. I love visiting DuMont Meadow, because it offers both forest and meadow area and provides habitats for birds and herps. This hike was simple, fun, and a great way to spend a sunny Friday morning! To make this an interactive hike, each participant had the responsibility of holding a plush bird and making it a bird’s nest as their task. Some of the kids made nests out of rocks and twigs, while others used pine cones and pine needles. It was also nice to share with parents about wildflowers, birds, and trees that are found on the property. After we hiked we enjoyed playing in Little River which runs along the boundary of DuMont Meadow.

I really enjoyed going out with the Lamoille County Hikes for Tykes group, and we will definitely be doing this again during the summer!
