Stowe Land Trust is pleased to welcome Barry Matthews as its Community Engagement Manager. This new position will build the land trust’s capacity for outreach, engagement, and education, and signals its ongoing commitment to land conservation that meets local needs, includes more people, and energizes our community. As Community Engagement Manager, Barry will manage organization-wide communications, facilitate educational and recreational programming, strengthen community partnerships, and coordinate SLT’s popular Summer Naturalist program.

Originally from Virginia, Barry joins the Stowe community after several years spent in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Barry comes to the land trust after serving in similar roles at Hilltown and Franklin Land Trusts in western Massachusetts—he previously held various positions in higher education and museum interpretation, specializing in art and environmental history. He holds a BA in Art History from VCUarts and an MA in American Studies from the College of William & Mary.

Barry is a lifelong outdoor enthusiast and is eager to explore the trails, roads, and slopes of Stowe and its surrounds in the months ahead. Be sure to say “hello” if you see Barry in the office or out in the wild!
