Lackey Forest
Before being generously gifted by The Nature Conservancy to Stowe Land Trust, this 9-acre forested parcel was originally sold to The Nature Conservancy in 2018. Located within the Shutesville Hill Wildlife Corridor, this protected forest helps ensure that important habitat remains undisturbed, safeguarding ecosystems and providing safe passage for wildlife as they roam in search of food, mates, or seasonal migration routes.
The Shutesville Hill Wildlife Corridor is the only viable east-west connection between the Green Mountains and the Worcesters, making lands within the corridor especially important for protecting native plants and wildlife.
Lackey Forest is entirely forested with red maple being the most dominant tree species found throughout, with pockets of hemlock and red spruce. The last timber harvest occurred over 40 years ago.
