North Hill Forest

Located within the Shutesville Hill Wildlife Corridor, North Hill Forest is comprised of two adjacent parcels. With support from The Nature Conservancy's Vermont Biodiversity Protection Fund and two generous neighboring landowners, this 74-acre parcel is part of the growing patchwork of conserved land within the corridor.

Previously cleared for farming, the land has naturally regenerated into a mature forest that now provides prime wildlife habitat. The forest features mostly Hemlock-Northern Hardwood Forest, Northern Hardwood Forest, and Rich Northern Hardwood Forest with a majority sugar maple canopy. Rare and uncommon plants are also found on these parcels.

North Hill Forest is part of a bottleneck that wildlife must traverse to move between the Green Mountains and the Worcester Range, making this property especially important for protecting native species like moose, black bears, bobcats, foxes, deer, and coyotes.

The Shutesville Hill Wildlife Corridor is part of the global Staying Connected Initiative, representing the only viable forest connection between the two mountain ranges.
