Join Stowe Land Trust for an informational walk and workshop about identifying tree species in the forests of Stowe, led by Protection Forester's Chloe Sardonis and Liam Farley with the VT Department of Forests, Parks & Recreation.
This free will offer hands-on instruction in identifying common native tree species using both physical characteristics and ecological context.
What you’ll learn:
- How to identify common tree species by leaves, bark, and overall form
- Key differences between similar-looking species
- Tips for tree identification in Vermont forests
What you’ll need:
- Sturdy hiking footwear
- Any water and snacks you need for a two-hour walk
- Weather-appropriate layers
We’ll be learning in the field and using the forest as our classroom, so please come prepared for an active walk outdoors. We will meet at Thompson Park and walk the Stowe Rec Path through the Bouchard Farm. Participants should be comfortable walking ~2 miles. We hope to see you there!
We have a rain date of August 28 from 2-4:00 PM with SLT's Matt Kelly and will reach out if the event is postponed.
